![]() ![]() This article has been accepted for publication in Journal of Pragmatics. The percentage shown that the dominant type of dysphemism becomes parallel with its function. It shows that cursing has the highest percentage (26%), followed by expressing defiance (24,7%), insulting or teasing (23,4%), expressing unconcern (8,4%), accusing or blaming (7,4%), criticizing (6,1%) questioning (3,7%). ![]() This study also reveals the functions of dysphemism. As for the types of dysphemism, profane swearing and profane oaths has the highest percentage, 35,8%, then terms of insults or disrespect 27,16%, taboo terms 19,75%, dysphemistic epithets 8,65%, imprecations and epithets 4,93%, finally, comparisons of people with animals 3,71%. The second place is Ajax with total 12 (15%) dysphemism in his utterances. Those dysphemism expressions are mainly spoken by Deadpool with the percentage (75%). The result of the study shows that there are 81 dysphemism in Deadpool movie script. The results show there are six types of dysphemism, and seven functions of dysphemism in Deadpool movie script. This study employs descriptive analytical method. This study is conducted to find out the types of dysphemism and its functions in Deadpool movie script by using Allan and Burridge’s theory. Many of his utterances, however, use dysphemism. ![]() Deadpool movie employs the fourth wall breaker in which Deadpool as the main character can speak directly to the audiences. Dysphemism is the use of offensive language which can be used as a weapon by a speaker to against the hearer or it can also be used to release the speaker’s anger and frustration. ![]()
